Prof. Dr. Kathleen B Claes obtained her Ph.D. degree in 2003 with a dissertation on ‘Molecular study of the BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes in a large cohort of Belgian patients with a genetic predisposition for breast and/or ovarian cancer’. Her major research interest involves cancer predisposition and precision oncology and she has a major expertise in molecular tests for (hereditary) cancer. Today she is a principal investigator at the Familial Cancer Research Laboratory of CRIG (Cancer Research Institute Ghent) and an associate professor at Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences of UGent.
At the international level she is active in several working groups of ENIGMA (https://enigmaconsortium.org/) and CIMBA (http://cimba.ccge.medschl.cam.ac.uk/). She is work package leader in the ERN GENTURIS (https://www.genturis.eu/). She is chairing the BELMOLGEN working group of the Belgian Society of Human Genetics (http://www.beshg.be/) and treasurer of FAPA (https://belgianfapa.be/).
