Prof. Dr. Frederik Hes graduated from Universiteit Utrecht in 1995. He obtained his doctorate in 2000 at the Universiteit Utrecht with a study on Von Hippel-Lindau disease. From 2000 to 2001 he trained as an internist and continued his training as a clinical geneticist from 2001 to 2005 at Leids Universitair Medisch Centrum. From 2015 to 2019 he was president of the Dutch Association for Clinical Genetics. His main research interest remains in the field of oncogenetics.
Since 2019 he has been appointed head of the department of medical genetics at the UZ Brussels and professor of clinical genetics at the VUB. His main research interests include hereditary cancers and improving the identification and management of patients with hereditary cancer syndromes. His work also focuses on reproductive genetics. He currently supervises doctoral students working in different areas of genetics, such as cancer and infertility, reproductive decision making and psychosocial aspects.
