Prof. Dr. Bettina Blaumeiser graduated as a doctor from the University of Antwerp in 1994. She is a gynaecologist and obstetrician with recognition in Belgium, Germany and Norway, and obtained her PhD in medical sciences in 2007 with a thesis on the genetic causes of alopecia areata. She has a specific interest in prenatal diagnosis, complex genetic diseases and hereditary cancers, as well as the treatment of rare diseases and genetic counselling in general. She is currently a clinical genetics and gynaecologist at the Antwerp University Hospital and also a professor at the University of Antwerp. She is an active member of the Belgian College of Human Genetics and Rare Diseases.
